Girl Scouts Host SHOW YOU CARE event June 7
Take good care of yourself. Treat others in that same spirit. Extend your care to animals, and to the environment.
These four aspirations drive “Be Nice, Be Aware, Show You Care,” a community event that will be presented Saturday June 7th at the Holliston Senior Center by Holliston Junior Girl Scout Troop 2249. The Troop’s six members –5th graders Audrey Abucewicz, Reagan Boice, Alex Dent, Brianna McDonald, Shreya Patel, and Rosa Stalzer – have worked together for several months to conceive, plan, and produce the event, in fulfillment of their Bronze Award requirement (the Bronze Award recognizes leadership achievement and is the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can achieve).
Stations dedicated to each of four topics (“Be Good to Yourself,” “Be Good to Others,” “Be Good to Animals,” “Be Good to the Earth,”) will feature information and several experts from the community.
"Producing this event has inspired me to care more about others, the Earth, myself and animals,” says Reagan Boice. Alex Dent agrees: "This event has showed not just me, but other people, that you can be young and still achieve something."
Troop members will also present their original video on the topic of bullying, a serious social issue that can have lasting impact for young people. “I feel like this event is going to help make an impact with putting an end to bullying and focus on being nice," reflects Audrey Abucewicz, and Rosa Stalzer adds, “it taught me that we can solve any problem if we try with teamwork."
The event is free and open to all. Healthy refreshments will be offered for voluntary donation, with proceeds going to the Medfield Animal Shelter.
"I'm really glad we got to do this project,” reflects Shreya Patel. “It is nice to see something come out of our hard work."
