Galeaz-Weber Withdraws Candidacy

by Lisa Galeaz-Weber
4/18/2014

After much deliberation and with mixed emotions, I wanted to let the community know that I have withdrawn my candidacy for School Committee.

I hope I have served this community well, I know I am better for having served. For the past nine years I have tried to make decisions that were balanced, reflecting the school district in its entirety. I have never had a platform or a cause. I am a mom and step-mom to five very different children, that will each be successful, based on their own unique skills and qualities. And with that in mind, I have worked to the best of my ability to assure, through very difficult times, we have maintained services to allow every child to succeed.

In a time of increasing initiatives and mandates,  lack of funding from the state and federal government, and town decisions that have a direct bottom line effect on our operating budget, it has become increasing difficult to sustain the level of services necessary to support our schools. I ask the committees that govern this town to not lose sight of the present as a consequence of the future. While each board certainly comes with their own unique set of members, goals, and charter, the ultimate goal is the success of our town and my firm belief, is that our schools are the heart of much of a town’s success. Our children will grow to become fire fighters, police officers, teachers, or whatever they're destined to be. They will utilize the services of a senior center and drive on town roads, but first, they need to be educated. The ultimate success of each and every department begins with the youngest citizens of our town. It is all of our jobs to assure their success, because ultimately that will decide ours. It’s time to work together both within your own boards and board to board.

It has been my privilege and honor to serve this community for the past nine years. I have been lucky to work with a stellar administrative team here at this table and those that have since retired and with board members past and present. We have all accomplished much together and I know you will continue to do so. I wish you all at this table and those who will join it continued success. The community and the children of Holliston are lucky to have you all.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Your own words said it all: you never had a platform or a cause, and you made decisions that were balanced, reflecting the school district in its entirety. That you volunteered to do this in the most difficult of fiscal times, and with the most challenging of new mandates, for NINE YEARS, is most appreciated! With the deep thanks from my family, Wendy Joslin

Lisa, thank you so very much for sharing so much of your intellect, talent and grit with Holliston. There are no accolades that can be expressed from a keyboard that capture not only what you have accomplished through your dedicated service, but the gratitude for that time, effort and expertise. The children of Holliston - and the Town - have been the beneficiaries of Lisa Galeaz-Weber. I thank you all the time, effort, anxiety, sweat and tears - it was not lost on us. Holliston is deeply indebted to you. Godspeed. (And please don't go anywhere!)

Words cannot express my deep gratitude for everything you have done. And, you did it with grace, patience, a smile and high energy. Thank you again so very much! Sherry Anderson

Lisa, thank you for your dedication on behalf of the children of Holliston. Most people are not aware of the amount of time and effort that our "volunteer" positions require. Our schools have always been great, but thanks in part to your efforts, they are now better then when you started.
