On Tuesday, March 18, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation held its 58th Annual Dinner and recognized two of Holliston’s finest: Patty Osten and Craig Denman of the Holliston Auxiliary Police Department.

The top award of the evening, The Hope in Action Award, was given to Patty Osten.

Patty with her sons Matt, Cole and Brad and husband Jim.

Patty Osten has been the coordinator for volunteers for the CF Cycle for Life for four years yet her love for the CF cause and people with cystic fibrosis began 32 years ago. As a physical therapist she changed her initial career plans to work in the cardiac unit at Tufts New England Medical Center when she was introduced to her first cystic fibrosis patients; she was hooked. To quote a person she works with, “Patty is a CF resource for information, she is a cheerleader when I am sick, a counselor when needed, a reality check for when I really do need a clean out but the most important thing she has become – Is my friend.”

Patty spends a lot of time with her CF people and develops a special bond. She hurts when they hurt and they keenly know she is fighting the CF fight for all of her patients. This is a personal fight for her and she has so much courage at the side of CF patients. Patty is one of those rare spirits with a magnetic personality that everyone wants to be around.

Sgt. Craig Denman accepts the award for the Holliston Auxiliary Police Department from Joe O'Donnell and Preston W. Campbell lll, MD

For the past 16 years, the Holliston Auxiliary Police Department has marked their calendar with the CF Cycle for Life, formerly the Cycle for Haylee and generously donated their time and talents. Since, 1998, the cumulative numbers are impressive; they have helped ensure the safety of 2,953 riders who have traveled 780 miles in the metro west area including Holliston. While directing traffic and bringing riders back to Fatima Shrine, they maintain a smile from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm; no matter the weather! Thanks to their loyal commitment the expenses for the CF Cycle for Life continue to remain low, ensuring that $1.3 million dollars are dedicated to CF science.

Thank you, Sergeant Craig Denman and the Holliston Auxiliary Police Department for keeping us on the road to a cure and a special Thank you to Patty Osten for keeping hope alive within the CF community.

Congratulations, Craig and Patty, Holliston is proud of you.
