The 11th Annual Walk Against Breast Cancer in Holliston takes place Sunday, October 20 at 1:30 at the Congregational Church Green.  Pre-register online before Thursday at midnight by visiting www.hollistonwalks.org or arrive by 12:15 to register the day of the event.  All walkers should arrive between 12:15 and 1:00 to pick up their free t-shirts, purchase drawing tickets, browse the silent auction and sample the delicious food.

Organizers Kathy Chisholm, Denise Cronin, Katie Connors, Jayne Jones, Maryann Marcoux, Pam Poor, and Dawn Waddell offer the “Top 11 Reasons to Walk” for the event’s 11th anniversary this year:

1. The Walk benefits Dana Farber and breast cancer research.  All donations go straight to patient care and research.  Walking helps you be a part of the solution.

2. Free T-shirt. Thanks to our shirt sponsor, The Walking Company, all our participants receive a terrific pink t-shirt, adorned with the names of our generous local sponsors, who are proudly displayed on the back.  Guaranteed to be worn with pride year after year.

3. Everyone can benefit from a five-mile walk outside. Among the many benefits of exercise, one is that a regular workout may actually help prevent cancer of all kinds.

4. Silent Auction:  Walking or not, come bid on a variety of items including a Cape Cod weekend getaway, a dinner cruise aboard the Odyssey Yacht in Boston, a Patriots 4-ticket package a pair of American Airlines tickets, a handmade quilt and more.  All prizes will be displayed outdoors.

5. Grand Prize Drawing: Take a chance to win something from the collection of wonderful donated items, such as restaurant gift certificates, gift baskets, jewelry and more! Suggested donations for tickets are: 1 for $5, 3 for $10, and 8 for $20.

6. Delicious free snacks. Thanks to the generosity of many local donors and the efforts of the Holliston High School National Honor Society, you can munch a banana, granola bar, candy, homemade baked goods, or sample a yogurt -- and this year, soup.

7. Scenic Holliston. Nothing says fall in New England like

a foliage-lined stroll through downtown Holliston.

8. Meet new people or see old friends. Come and see the outpouring of support from tweens, teens, teams and all of us in between. Young and old, babies in strollers, and dogs on leashes, men, women, and children and survivors all coming together to join as one in support of this important cause to eradicate this terrible disease that has had an impact on all of us.

9. Celebrating survivors. Each year, we are heartened to see the number of survivors increase.  We take a moment before our Walk to celebrate their presence with us and to remember why we walk.
10. You become part of something bigger.   To date, the Walk in Holliston has donated over $450,000 directly to research and patient care at Dana Farber. You can help us reach our goal of raising half a million dollars.

11. Remembering the past, believing in the future. We remember those who have passed because of this disease, especially Maryellen Miller, our friend and walk founder, for whom we walk every year. Remembering makes us work harder for a future without breast cancer.
