The Citizen Scholarship Foundation

The Citizen Scholarship Foundation of Holliston is a non-profit organization that has given hundreds of scholarships to Holliston college students since 1964. This year the citizens of Holliston through the Scholarship Foundation gave $55,000 of Scholarship Awards to Holliston High School Seniors. In addition 17 graduated Students are receiving $1000 continuing Awards to assist them in their sophomore, junior and senior years of college. The Foundation’s commitment to the class of 2012 will put the total value of Scholarship Foundation awards at well over one million dollars.

Foundation for the past The Awards are presented by William Phipps, the Vice President of the Scholarship fifteen years .This year’s High School Senior Award Recipients are:

The Celebrate Holliston Award: This is the fifth annual Celebrate Holliston Award. The Celebrate Holliston Committee and the Citizen Scholarship Foundation fund this award and it is it given to a student who has demonstrated great citizenship and responsibility to our local community.
The Award is given to Rebecca Gagnon


The Jarvi Award:  Is given in memory of George Jarvi, former School Committee member and his wife Nancy Jarvi, former Holliston High School Guidance secretary and student advocate.
The Award is given to Owen Neuberger


The Kamitian Award:  is given in the name of longtime Holliston High School principal Bedros Kamitian and in memory of his wife Helen, both very important people in the history of the Citizen Scholarship Foundation:
The Award is given to Jordan Sostilo


The Andrew Linn Award:  is given in memory of Andrew Linn, a former student at Holliston School. This is the 39th Andrew Linn Award and the Scholarship Foundations oldest dedicated award:
The Award is given to Daniel Larracey


The Beth Lyon Award: Given in memory of Beth Lyon, a former student at Holliston High School and a member of the class of 1985: The award is usually given to a student who has demonstrated an interest in writing or journalism. No recipient fit that profile this year.
The Award is given to Melissa Emmons


The William and Alice Phipps Award: Given for the third time in the name of William and Alice Phipps, both lifelong residents of Holliston and graduates of Holliston high School. William Phipps has been a driving force in the Scholarship Foundation for 20 years and is presenting the Awards this evening.
The Award is given Janine Holder


The Reece McGilvray Award:  This award is given in memory of Reece McGilvray, a former school committee member in Holliston and an active member of the community.
The Award is given to Nicole McLean


The Sam Placentino Award: This award is given in memory of Sam Placentino, a former longtime Superintendent of Schools and the architect of the excellence of the Holliston School System.
The Award is given to Brianna Bergen


The Virginia Aldrich McGrain Award: Given in memory of Virginia Aldrich McGrain, longtime Holliston resident and major benefactor of the Scholarship Foundation:
The Award is given to Michael Noonan


The Fred W. Miller Award: Given in Memory of Fred Miller, longtime Superintendent of the Holliston Public Schools and major benefactor of the Scholarship Foundation:
The Award is given to Michael Reed


The Richard, Michael and Tracy Thompson Award: Given for the sixth time in memory of Richard Thompson, local businessman, former member of the school committee and avid supporter of both a strong Holliston school system and the Scholarship Foundation. It is also given in memory of his son Michael and his wife Tract Handt Thompson, both former graduates of Holliston High School
The Award is given to Colleen Carraher

The Reverend William Haley Award: This award is given in memory of the Reverend William Haley who recently passed away last year. He was the beloved pastor at Saint Mary’s in Holliston for thirty Years and an enormous influence in the Holliston community.
The Award is given to Jennifer Eastaugh.

After losing their son Joey, this family -- Jim, Charlene and Daniel -- raised and gave away nearly $50,000 in their son's name:

The Joey Larracey Awards(4): These awards are given in memory of Joey Larracey, a former student at Holliston School who would have graduated two years ago. This award is given in loving memory by his family and friends.

The Ted and Mary Lewis Award: Ted and Mary Lewis were active members of the Holliston Community for many years and strong supporters of education in Holliston. Mary was a former secretary of the Holliston School Committee and the first secretary of the Citizen Scholarship Foundation in 1964. 
The Award is given to Nicole Bajdek

The Thomas A. Lyons Award: This is the first of many awards to be given in memory of Tom Lyons by his family and friends . Tom Lyons was a successful businessman and former member of the Holliston School Committee. He was very active in the community and a devout and energetic supporter of quality schools in Holliston. 
The Award is given to Taylor Mankus

The Kathleen Webster Award: This award is given for the third time, in memory of Kathleen Webster, a former devoted teacher at Holliston High School who taught English at Holliston High School for 33 years. 
The Award is given to Duncan Robertson

... and I'm sure that I speak for the rest of the senior class parents Mrs Stickney, when I say that we are ESPECIALLY appreciative of The Citizens Scholarship Foundation, as well as all of the other groups and people providing scholarship assistance for the students of Holliston.
