Christmas of Yesteryear Open House

Holliston Historical Society invites the public to experience how Christmas in Holliston might have been celebrated in 1890–1900, the latter part of the Victorian era, on Sunday, Dec. 5 from noon to 5 PM. The Historical Society will bring the period alive with activities, a collection of Santas and period furniture, household items and Christmas decorations in three rooms of the Asa Whiting House with guides sharing information about Christmas traditions during that time period. Members of the Holliston Garden Club are graciously decorating the mantels and other areas of the house with period horticultural displays.

Storytime for children is scheduled for 1 PM and 4 PM with excerpts from traditional stories by Charles Dickens, Thomas Nast and others as well as a specially written story featuring the Christmas adventures of Holliston’s own “Annie Fiske.” The Hollistones will entertain with carols at 3 PM.

In the barn visitors will be treated to cookies and mulled cider and will also find a bake table, crafts for children (donation requested) and special items for sale for those hard-to-buy-for friends and relatives.

The Christmas Open House is the culmination of a year of celebrating Holliston Historical Society’s 100th Anniversary. Come, be a part of it! We look forward to seeing you! www.hollistonhistoricalsociety.org
