Newcomers Looking for Volunteers

HOLLISTON, Mass. (October 17, 2008)—Each year over 90 Holliston families enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings thanks to the community, the Holliston Newcomers Club and the Holliston Food Pantry.  Together, they make the annual Thanksgiving Day Basket Drive happen.
A major part of the program’s success will be the food drive held at Shaw’s in Ashland on November 15, 2008.  Volunteers are needed to staff this event which will entail handing out shopping lists and gathering donated items. Volunteers don’t need to be part of the Newcomers Club to join in this community effort. Other ways people can help include: delivering non-perishable food, such as stuffing mix, gravy, canned vegetables and cranberry sauce, to weather proof boxes posted outside several Holliston homes; purchasing vouchers for pies and turkeys; and decorating the Thanksgiving meal packages.

 The Holliston Newcomers Club (www.hollistonnewcomers.org) is a nonprofit organization that coordinates charitable, civic, education and recreational events and activities in the town of Holliston.  The organization’s goal is to encourage association among community members and foster community spirit.  Membership is open to both residents and non-residents of Holliston.
