Upper Charles Climate Action Group Posts Art Installation
Holliston members of the UCCA Group posted an art installation along a 1.3 mile stretch of Rte 16 through the center of Holliston, MA, to draw attention to the current climate crisis.
Calls and efforts to mitigate and limit the climate crisis are gaining in intensity worldwide. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has predicted that humans must reduce our carbon emissions 50% by 2030 and 100% by 2050, or face significant climate disruption that may be irreversible.
Young climate activists worldwide have called for global climate strikes and actions during the week of Sept. 20-27.
The signs illustrate the increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere over the last 62 years, and encourage action to protect the climate.
62 years of increasing carbon dioxide levels (this graphic was added by the Publishers to show the rate of change - especially in the past 30 years) Holliston is now Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness certified which makes it eligible for grants related to the local impact of climate change.
The installation is a project of Upper Charles Climate Action, a local chapter of 350 Mass. The installation will be available for viewing during a limited time from 9/21 - 9/28. From the westbound, the installation begins at approximately at 439 Washington Street. From the east bound side the installation begins at approximately at 1027 Washington Street. Just think what the traffic lights have done to increase the amount of air pollution in town. One year of 3 hours, per day, of cars backed up to Bazils east bound in the AM & 3 hours backed up past the police station to Rt 126 west bound in the afternoon. How's that working out?

I appreciate you putting up the signs. Just like the signs for veterans of war, these signs remind us of damages we don't pay attention to day in and day out.
