Council on Aging Reviews Recent Facility and Events Updates
At the September meeting of Holliston’s Council on Aging, Chair Kevin Robert (Bob) Malone noted the improved condition of the Senior Center (bathrooms especially noted), a result of funding supported by Sen. Karen Spilka and Rep. Carolyn Dykema.
Among items reviewed in the Senior Center Director’s Report, Linda Marshall mentioned the recently completed doors and windows project and the installation of a new stove. She thanked Sen. Spilka for her funding efforts.

The DPW is expected to complete various necessary maintenance work. The Director has submitted a request to the Select Board and the Finance Committee for approximately $50,000. for areas of the building that have not previously been updated.

Marshall noted that salary increases were awarded to all Department Heads last week following the Town Administrator and Select Board’s revision of Department Head pay scale.
The Fall Yard Sale held on September 7 was a huge success. Marshall recognized the work of the Senior Support Foundation and the Fall Fair Committee.
Patrons of Holliston Superette sent $400.00 to the Senior Center from recent donations to the glass jar on the checkout stand.
Marshall noted several new and returning programs, as well as two classes each in need of an instructor: the watercolor class and the Pilates class. She is presently accepting fuel assistance applications.
In New Business, Chair Malone spoke about a more “standardized” format and time frame that Town Manager Jeff Ritter is examining for the evaluations of Department Heads. Budget Priorities for the FY2020-21 include a request for a much needed part time administrative assistant.
The meeting adjourned with plans to meet October 9, 2019, at 1:00 PM, at the Senior Center on Goulding Street.
