John Murphy at 71
John W. Murphy, 71, of Hillside Road passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, December 1, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Parker) Murphy. Born July 1, 1947 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late John P and Nora E. (Carroll) Murphy and the stepson of the late Ann (Flynn) Murphy. John grew up in Holliston, MA and was a 1965 graduate of Holliston High School and went on to get his Bachelors Degree from Framingham State College. He served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 and during this time he was stationed at Pease Air Force Base, Guam, and Thailand. John had been a resident of Plainville for the past 42 years and was a communicant of St. Marthas Parish where he was a cantor for over 40 years. He retired from Verizon, where he worked as a technical planner for 41 years. John enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Friends & Family Camping Club, previously known as Starcraft Camping Club. He could be seen pacing nervously as he cheered on his Boston sports teams. He enjoyed scratching his grand-dogs, but most importantly he enjoyed his time spent with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Barbara, John is survived by his 3 children: Sean and his wife Kim Murphy of Reno, NV; Brian and his wife Julia Murphy of Phoenix, AZ; and Kara and her husband Aaron Gallagher of Mansfield, MA; his grandson: Myles Gallagher of Mansfield, MA; his siblings-in-laws: William and Laurie Parker of Hardy, VA; Thomas and Debra Parker of Mansfield, MA; his uncle: Reverend James Murphy, C.S.C.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visiting for John will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Sperry McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from Sperry McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St Marthas Church, 227 South Street, Plainville, MA at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
