Spring Happenings at Holliston Pantry Shelf
It’s a bountiful and eventful Spring at Holliston Pantry Shelf. Two major town-wide food drives are expected to help stock the Pantry shelves in advance of the slower donation period of the summer. In addition, the Pantry has unveiled a brand new logo to celebrate its relocation to a new, more contemporary location at 73 Charles Street. The Pantry has also announced openings for several new volunteer positions.
The Holliston High School Class of 2019 conducted the annual “Scavenger Hunt” to benefit the Pantry on April 7th. Ten teams of students travelled door-to-door throughout town, and collected two van-loads of non-perishable items as well as monetary contributions. On May 12, the Holliston Post Office will conduct its annual town-wide food drive. Residents are asked to leave non-perishable food items at their mailboxes to be collected by postal workers. All donations will be delivered to Holliston Pantry Shelf.
“We are so grateful for the efforts of the students involved in the Scavenger Hunt, the Postal Workers, and the entire community of Holliston,” said Steve Bradford, President of Holliston Pantry Shelf. “The Pantry would not exist without the generosity of the residents of this town who consistently support the Pantry through these food drives.”
Holliston Pantry Shelf recently moved to a new, modern and energy efficient space at 73 Charles Street. Pantry customers have expressed appreciation for the convenient, central downtown location. Pantry officials are celebrating the completion of the new facility with the brand new logo.
“We believe our logo reflects the more modern and efficient ways our Pantry works to meet the needs of the community,” said Bradford. “We would also like to extend our gratitude to Millis resident Debbie Hayes and her business, AdminMatters, for donating their design services to develop the exciting new logo.”
The Pantry has also announced that it is seeking to fill several volunteer positions. Volunteers are needed to join the team that uses the Pantry van to pick up and unload bulk orders of groceries at the Pantry. These volunteers must be available between 8:30 – 10:30 AM on either Monday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings. These positions require that volunteers are able to lift a minimum of 40-50 lbs. The Pantry is also seeking volunteers for its cleaning crew which cleans the Pantry on alternate Thursday evenings from 6 – 7:30 pm. If you are interested in joining this team, please contact Pantry Volunteer Coordinator Linda Caron at lmtboc@gmail.com.
Holliston Pantry Shelf is a non-profit 501(c)(3) and is available for all residents of Holliston. Currently, Holliston Pantry Shelf serves more than 200 families.
