Holliston Pantry Shelf Announces Move to New Location
The Holliston Pantry Shelf Board announced today that the Pantry will move to a new location at 73 Charles Street on December 5, 2017. The announcement follows a 6-month due diligence process during which the Holliston Pantry Shelf Board assessed its lease options with specific consideration for the future needs of the Pantry. The new Pantry is part of the 100 Central Street building and will occupy a portion of the lower level space at the rear of the building.
The new location was custom designed to create significant improvements to the Pantry’s day-to-day operations. In addition, upgraded electrical, heating and cooling systems create substantially improved energy efficiency. Materials including flooring, walls and lighting were selected to ensure cleanliness and safety for close to 400 individual residents that rely on the Pantry to meet their food needs.
“We believe this new space will serve our community well into the future,” said Stephen Bradford, President of the Holliston Pantry Shelf. “This move represents a true community effort, with so many local businesses and individuals donating their time, materials and services to help us make the new Pantry a reality. We are truly honored and grateful that so many in our community came together to give our neighbors a significantly improved Pantry for many years to come.”

The Holliston Pantry Shelf was founded in 1991 and initially operated in Town Hall before moving to 23 Water Street. Currently, the Pantry serves close to 200 families. The Holliston Pantry Shelf was founded with the mission of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”. Pantry clients only need to demonstrate Holliston residence to receive a Pantry ID card. The Pantry ID card allows residents to visit the Pantry once a week and select their own groceries including fresh produce, canned goods, dairy products, and weekly specials to meet their family’s needs. The Pantry is operated entirely by a staff of 120 volunteers.

Holliston Pantry Shelf Board Member Dave O’Neil accepts a $1,000.00 check from Kevin Webber of the Greater Framingham Rotary. The money was donated for the installation costs for new flooring at the Pantry’s new location. The flooring materials were donated by Allegeny Contract Flooring in Winchester, MA in conjunction with Ford Construction Company of Norwell, MA. Ford Construction Company also facilitated numerous donations of lighting and doors from MEDITECH of Natick, MA.
New England Household Moving and Storage, a Holliston-based business, donated the entire cost of their time and service to move the Pantry’s industrial sized refridgerators, freezers and other large items to its new location at 73 Charles Street.

I am so happy to see that the Meditech software system that we have used at our hospital is also concerned with community efforts such as your food pantry and extends their helping hands to your community! That is great service above and beyond! I challenge other companies to do the same.

The Pantry has come a very long way from humble beginnings. A small table under the lower town hall stairs was the Pantry some twenty something years ago. We lost space from Town Clerk Nancy Norris after a jar of jelly broke on her voting booths in a small storage closet. The furnace room at town hall was our next big move until items literally began to cook. Kudos to all who made this move possible and making Holliston's Pantry the best run and most generous one in the state.
