Books and Things opened its doors to Mary Murphy of Hooray for Books in Hopkinton for an evening of reading, cooking, and lots of laughs. Mary, a former Kindergarten teacher and mom of 5 is known locally for her creative classes that teach children to read with a side of cooking! She read with wonderful animation that captured the children’s attention and sent them into fits of laughter as she read two books from the popular Froggy series by Jonathan London.

The children listened to “Froggy Goes to Bed” and “Froggy Play’s T-Ball” and then cooked up Froggy’s Favorite Green Gloop. Mary was a big hit with the children and the parents as she sent each child home with an informative packet filled with summer reading suggestions, coupons for her summer camp, and coupons for Coffee Haven. One lucky person even won a free week of summer camp at Hooray for Books (www.hoorayforbooks.com).

The event drew a big response from not only Holliston but surrounding towns. For many it was their first time in the new Books and Things store as well as learning more about Hooray for Books in Hopkinton. “I didn’t realize this store was so big. There are so many great books for children and adults. Plus, I have heard so many wonderful things about Hooray for Books it was fun to see Mary in action. I can see why the program is so popular with both kids and parents.” commented Betsy Loeffler of Medway.
