Holliston Newcomers Club - Grant Award Picnic

by Frances Pleska
5/24/2015

It was a beautiful day at Stoddard Park when the Holliston Newcomers Club hosted a picnic for all members in order to present and award their grants to many recipients within our community.

The grants are a result of much hard work and dedication the Holliston Newcomers Club accomplishes throughout the year to raise money by organizing such events as The Annual Craft Fair, Touch-a-Truck, Gingerbread House Decorating, and many others.

The "Bouncy House" was a big hit with the kids.  The Newcomers served hot dogs and refreshments from Dogs on Fire 911, free popcorn was enjoyed and there was even Face Painting available.

Of course the beach at Lake Winthrop was also an attraction and it was a sunny day in spring with no sign of snow anywhere!

To present the grants were Danielle Ohman, President and Cathy Snyder, 1st Vice President.

Each recipient expressed how grateful they were to put the money to good use within Holliston.
Danielle and Cathy were proud to hand out the checks and thank all of the recipients for their service to our community.

The Downtown Marigold Project was honored to receive a grant to replace the co-co matting for all the hanging baskets downtown as well as 4 new baskets themselves. The Newcomers have always been very generous when it comes to adding a little beauty to Holliston.

The Holliston Conservation Associates also received a grant to complete work on the boardwalk for the nature trail behind the Miller/Placentino school complex. We hope to have it finished by July when the America in Bloom judges visit our town. Thank you to the Newcomers Club for making this possible!

I can give you the name of at least one recipient. The Friends of Holliston Trails are humbled and grateful for the continuous and seemingly endless support of the Holliston Newcomers Club. Thanks to everyone involved that helps make this community as special as it is.
