On Thursday, March 19, the Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will recognize Representative Carolyn Dykema as one of its Legislators of the Year at a ceremony at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (980 Harrison Avenue).

“Representative Dykema’s efforts in 2014 have played a major role in putting water and wastewater infrastructure back on the map,” stated Katherine Dunphy, Advisory Board Chair.

A report issued by the Infrastructure Finance Commission co-chaired by Representative Dykema and Senator James Eldridge identified $40 billion in unmet water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure needs over the next 20 years.

“Their work in the passage of the landmark S.2021 ‘An Act Improving Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure’ builds a foundation moving forward to begin the necessary/critical investment in our infrastructure,” stated Joe Favaloro, Advisory Board Executive Director.

“It is an honor to be named Legislator of the Year by the MWRA Advisory Board. The MWRA has always been a leader in the management of our water resources as well as in innovative technology,” said Rep. Dykema. “The water infrastructure bill we passed last year with significant contributions from the MWRA is a step toward partnering with our cities and towns to better manage our water and wastewater systems while also preparing for long-term maintenance and investment. I look forward to continuing the conversation and using the momentum we gained last session to further protect the Commonwealth’s water resources.”

The Advisory Board looks forward to working with Representative Dykema to secure the funding necessary to make critical investments in protecting water and wastewater infrastructure and the environment.

The Advisory Board represents 60 communities receiving service from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. Created in the same year as the MWRA, the Advisory Board has the statutory obligation to review and issue comments and recommendations upon the Authority’s capital and current expense budgets. Over the years, the Advisory Board has succeeded in saving communities and ratepayers over one billion dollars through its thorough analysis and dedication to representing its member communities.
