Marketing Holliston, Think Positive

I think the recent articles about downtown and East Holliston business vacancies has provided a lot of insight into an obvious concern. However I believe we need to also focus on the positive and many businesses that are doing well and use that focus to help market Holliston and bring new business into the area. Pejamajos was an unfortunate closing, yet the Holliston Grill, Superette, Bertucci's, Coffee Haven, Casey's, are great spots along with many others for getting great food in friendly atmospheres, in East Holliston where our clock shop is located but where there were the reported vacancies, I can happily say our clock shop, Hills Antique Clocks, is doing very well,

Bertucci's is busy, Berry Bon Bon is back soon from a winter break, Clever Bride Consignments is a great shop, and the spots where Thrifty Interiors and Lost Art of Life were vacated are great opportunities for new business to come into. I think now is the time to see Holliston marketed in a positive light for new opportunities as luckily flu season eventually passes and who doesn't feel better and happy to be out and about after the flu. So chat up friends with business ideas or planning a new business and market Holliston because it is a great place to keep downtown, East Holliston, etc. vibrant and busy and maintain the many unique qualities of local businesses.

We appreciate Mr. Chamberlain stopping by our shop. We have put up a sign announcing the shop is closed/limited hours at the moment due to my mother-in-law falling seriously ill and we need to be by her side at this time. Our apologies for any inconvenience to our customers. We appreciate your patience as we go through this very difficult family time. Thank you, Hills Antique Clocks.

Just Thinking here but if I were trying to sell my house - or even considering it - I would get really upset if neighbors and others decided to make my house the topic of debate online. Imagine how hard it would be to negotiate a deal under the spotlight. Whether it's the rental business or the property owner, I have to think that the discussions are uncomfortable and may hurt the outcome. I'd love to hear what people want downtown - what they want it to look like and offer. I will dedicate one or more Just Thinking TV shows to the subject - just let me know what you think here or at mmgreendale@gmail.com.

Why would CVS want to move to a building that has all that traffic whizzing by so close to the building. It won't do a thing for the center of town. Superette is a Holliston tradition and if CVS displaces Superette I will take my business to Walgreens in Medway.

Unfortunately I did drop by the clock shop this afternoon to see if they could fix my, 25 years of service from General Motors, over wound, mantel clock and they were closed.

As much as I enjoy the Superette and the historic look of down town, the (rumored)new CVS may be the best thing for surrounding downtown businesses. Businesses typically feed off each other and an "anchor tenant" provides customers a reason to get out of their car and perhaps explore other retailers. Holliston should make sure that requirements are in place to ensure that the new building does not detract from the historic look of down town...and why not work with CVS to create parking space which could benefit other businesses. What about working with CVS to develop a common septic solution?
