Holliston Youth Needs Support

My son plays basketball on a Holliston Youth Basketball town team. Their season starts tomorrow. I got this email from the HYB Board and want to share it here. This child (they mention) is in the middle of the worst nightmare a kid can ever face. Worse , at Christmas it should be a time of joy. Joy will be in short supply, no matter what.

Recently I have had turn of bad luck myself, however nothing as catastrophic as this. In this spirit, for children everyone facing a bleak holiday....PLEASE take the extra step, give the extra dollar, buy the extra can of food. If we are indeed brothers and sisters we need to care for those hurting the most. This letter is as real and as heartbreaking as it gets. Let all of find a way to spread the peace of the season a little futher

Tomorrow we begin (for the older teams) our first day of town basketball. We are looking forward to a wonderful basketball season with your children. Unfortunately, we are writing to you with a very heavy heart as we begin our HYB season. An HYB alumnus who is currently in high school is struggling with some very difficult family issues. As unreal and heartbreaking as this following scenario sounds, it is what this poor child is facing every day of his life in our own home town.

We don't know all the details but the child's mother is terminal and permanently residing in a hospital. Just last week, the child's father passed away from cancer. Fortunately, this child has some wonderful neighbors who allowed the child to stay with them for now. The child is facing uncertainty as to where the state will place him in the midst of being parentless.

In light of this heartbreaking situation and in the spirit of holiday giving, our program is collecting donations, "Dunk Your Donation" toward this child's tremendous life needs at this time. We will be helping with some school/sports expenses as needed and possibly some holiday gift cards for him. We will have buckets at each scorers table tomorrow as well as some HYB members walking around to help collect money in each gym. If you wish to write a check please make it out to HYB.

If you have any questions please feel free to approach any board member or email HYB directly. We thank so very much in advance for your generosity and prayers for this young man as he navigates his way through an unexpected life path.
