Citizens Scholarship Foundation

For fifty years the Citizen Scholarship Foundation, has been raising funds to assist Holliston students in attending college. CSFH was formed as an autonomous chapter of the national Citizen Scholarship Foundation of America in 1964 and has always functioned as an independent but dues paying member of the national organization. Over the years the national organization has changed its name several times and is now known as Scholarship America.

Scholarship America has told CSFH of Holliston that it must sign a new charter agreement that would require CSFH of Holliston to change its name to Holliston Dollars for Scholars and follow the by-laws and procedures of Scholarship America. We would also have to promote Scholarship America programs, use Scholarship America materials and pay significant annual chapter fees based on our net worth.

I have been involved with Citizen Scholarship Foundation of Holliston for 25 years and all of the money raised and awarded to students has come from the Holliston Community. We are an organization run solely by volunteers and are very proud of the fact that adminisrative expenses are very low and a very high percentage of funds raised are given directly to students as scholarship awards.

The Citizen Scholarship Foundation of Holliston has decided not to sign the new charter agreement with Scholarship America and has formed a new organization, The Holliston Scholarship Foundation Inc. The Holliston Scholarship Foundation Inc. is registered with the IRS as a nonprofit 501c (3) organization and recognized as a nonprofit corporation by the State of Massachusetts. All assets of the Citizen Scholarship Foundation of Holliston have been transferred to The Holliston Scholarship Foundation and the Holliston Scholarship Foundation has assumed all of the responsibilities of the Citizen Scholarship Foundation of Holliston.

The Holliston Scholarship Foundation Inc. is now Holliston's independent organization whose sole responsibility is to raise funds to assist Holliston students in attending college. The new organization will function in exactly the same way as the old one did.

The bylaws of the Holliston Scholarship Foundation Inc and their articles of Inc. are available for inspections by request

I agree with you completely, Bob McGrath. Thanks for all your years of LOCAL effort on behalf of our students. Here's to another 50!

As a long time supporter of this very worthy cause, I congratulate the officers on this decision to stay local. Unfortunately, these national organizations tend to get more demanding on both branding and fees to the point that some of the real local value is lost. Kudos for resisting the national push. All the best to Bob and his associates!
