Library Activities Planned
The Friends of the Holliston Public Library will present Souper Soups and Accompaniments with local chef, Ellie Deaner, on Thursday, January 10 at 7 pm. Participants will learn how to make a variety of quick and hearty soups. Recipes are included to take home. Ellie Deaner is from Framingham and has conducted cooking lessons for individuals, clubs and corporations in the area for 25 years. She was Consumer Affairs Consultant for Roche Bros. and Sudbury Farms Supermarkets where she presented innovative community relations and cooking for 15 years. She is the author of the two popular cookbooks, From Ellie's Kitchen To Yours and So Easy, So Delicious. One of her books will be given away the night of the program and both will be available for sale with 10% of each sale donated to the Friends of the Library. This program is limited to 35 participants and registration is required by phone, email or in person. It is free and funded by the Friends. Everyone is welcome. The Friends of the Holliston Public Library will present the 7th One Book, One Holliston this February. One Book is a community reading program that encourages the whole town to read the same book at the same time. The 2013 selection is Audrey Schulman’s Three Weeks in December, a novel about two New Englanders who travel from Maine to Africa a century apart and find their character challenged by circumstances beyond their control. Jeremy comes to British East Africa in 1899 to oversee the building of the railroad and must find the courage to protect his men from a rogue lion who preys upon them. In 2001, Max, a Maine botanist with Asperser’s Syndrome, is sent by a drug company to find a plant which will treat heart disease and finds much more amongst the great apes of the mountains. How these two individuals are connected is not revealed until the end of this suspenseful literary page-turner. Ms. Schulman lives in Cambridge and will visit Holliston on February 12 at 7 pm to talk about her book. There will be separate book titles and activities for children and teens.
