Do You Have Any Extra French Books?

Ken and Carolynn Henderson of Holliston will be traveling to Port au Prince, Haiti, visiting with their daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Gerritt VanWagenen in November. Julie and Gerritt are Mission Coordinators for Haiti Under God, living in Port au Prince, overseeing a girl’s orphanage (17 girls between 10-15 years) and managing a 22-bed guest house for those who come to Haiti on mission trips.

Ken and Carolynn have chosen a mission project of bringing mid-level “gently used” French reading books (middle/high school) to the girls at the orphanage. French is the language in the Haitian schools and general French reading books are scarce, when available at all. Building a library of mid-level high-interest French reading books is one way that these girls can learn about the world beyond their modest surroundings. The girls are well-cared for and have caring adult supervision. The challenge is to broaden their expectations for when they are out on their own after they graduate.

Donations of “gently used” French reading books are welcome and can be donated by contacting the Hendersons at 508-429-6834.
