Softball League Championship Game
That book, had it been written, would have detailed a decade of Braggville league domination, with one special chapter dedicated to Dalton Road’s “close but no cigar” challenge in the 2011 final. But the sentiment that will ultimately define the 2012 season is not one centered on an enduring dynasty, but rather the delight experienced in welcoming a new giant slayer to the party.
It took more than one stone for this David to slay his Goliath. Trailing 5-0 as they entered the fifth inning, Dalton Road plated seven runs and held on defensively for the remaining two innings to gain (what this reporter believes to be) their first league championship. Somewhere Bryce Brackett was smiling.
And thus ends the 2012 campaign, a season marked by a new board and relatively little controversy. Based on the final results, some teams will move up to Division A, and some will move down to Division B, but on this night, the camaraderie enjoyed by the more than 200 men who participate in the league took center stage.
