Catfight Between Aging Starlets

Regardless of outcome, it’s always a good time when the boys (yes, that term is used very loosely) of Casey’s East and Long Distance Tire get together for some Old Man Softball action.  Sunday night was no exception, and with both teams entering the match with losing records, well…….somebody had to win.

That somebody was Casey’s East, who in putting together an endless 17 run fourth inning, overcame an early Long Distance lead to eventually win 24-14.  Dennis Ferreira delivered the big blow during the big inning, with a monster opposite field triple that cleared the bases.  He also played a sparkling second base and contributed two more hits to his team’s cause, thus garnering Holliston Reporter Player of the Week honors.

In other action, Brentwood threw a real scare at undefeated Braggville, losing a close 4-2 encounter.  South lost by the same score to also undefeated Dalton Road in a game that was reported to have been played in less time than a Flintstones episode.  Kampersals, the third of the A Division undefeateds, fed on the Lions 20-1, who were obviously still fatigued from their weekend of public service.  League rumors indicate that the final Kampersals pitcher will be providing his mates with a healthy serving of malt based beverages in the near future, for having lost the shutout his prior moundsmen had so deeply coveted.

With the season half over and three teams locked at the top of Division A, all eyes will turn to Damigella Field next Sunday when Braggville and Dalton Road face off under the lights.  Meanwhile, Kampersals is scheduled to play a tough team from The Hood.

In the southern tier, five teams are presently tied for first place in Division B.  How are those tie breaker rules working out boys………

The scores:

Kampersals 20  Lions 1

Casey’s East 24  Long Distance Tire 14

Queens 14  Mudville 9

Dalton Road 4  South 2

The Hood 10  Jasper Rock 7

Braggville 4  Brentwood 2

Downtown 9  DYR 4
