Holliston Historical Society Hosted 18th Century Days 2012

Students ask questions about the uses of herbs in the Society‘s herb garden.  The shoe shop did double duty as typical 18th century one-room school house for the week.

18th Century games such as hoops are enjoyed by the students—no batteries or Wi-Fi required.

The kids cook their own corn meal pancakes as Nancy Chamberlain teaches them about hearth cooking.

This year three generations of the Chamberlain family participated in 18th Century Days:  long-time hearth cooking teacher Nancy Chamberlain is joined by Frank Chamberlain, Terri Chamberlain and grandson Benjamin.

Another example of why Holliston is such a great place to live and raise our kids. We're so fortunate to have a resource like the Historical Society and volunteers to help run this program. My son had a great time too - Couldn't wait to show me the 'Buzz Saw' toy he made. (Thanks, Frank! - nice picture of the Chamberlains, too!)

Every 3rd grader I speak with says that they had a great time. The kids were all excited to show parents what they made and to tell us what they had learned. Thank you to everyone that made this field trip possible.
