Director of Children’s Ministry Sought

The ideal candidate will have a background in Christian Education and should possess a basic knowledge of the Bible, Christian theology, educational theory, developmental age characteristics, and denominational identity. The candidate must be enthusiastic, organized, be able to motivate volunteers, have excellent communication skills and enjoy serving in a volunteer organization.

 First Congregational Church, UCC, is a vibrant, open and affirming church in Metro-West Boston with a warm and welcoming community. We preach and strive to live out God’s inclusive love for all and value our children as vital members of our congregation.

Duties include:

•    Attendance at church most Sunday mornings during the church school year (September through June), from 9 am until approximately 11:30 am or the conclusion of Sunday service.

•    Recruit, communicate with,  train and support teachers

•    Work closely with the Christian Education Committee and the Minister to set the direction and mission of the program

•    Communicate regularly with the congregation to increase understanding and enthusiasm for the program

•    Attend monthly CE committee meetings (currently, the second Sunday of each month), monthly staff meetings and an occasional Cabinet meeting (approximately once a quarter)

•    Be responsible for budgeting and accounting of Sunday School funds.

 •    Be responsible for personal development in the area of Christian Education through coursework at the UCC conference center, reading, working with the pastor, CE Board, deacons, etc.

This is a non-exempt, salaried position requiring 15 hours per week. The Director of Children’s Ministry reports to the Senior Minister.
