A diverse lineup of area bands and solo performers  will provide an evening of entertainment while an extensive collection  of valuable prizes and gifts  for a silent auction and raffle will be held throughout the evening to help raise money for VFW Commander Bob Lindsey, who was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident in September.  The fundraiser will help Bob’s family to provide him with the care he needs once he returns home.

The event, “A Hug for Bob,” is planned for Friday, March 30, 7-11 p.m., at the Holliston VFW, 310 Woodland Street. Tickets are $20. A cash bar will also be available.  Parking will be permitted at the Holliston Middle School, across the street from the VFW.

A Vietnam veteran and lifelong volunteer in Holliston and Ashland for numerous community organizations, Bob served as Commander of the Ashland American Legion, raised money for wounded veterans, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a spokesperson in local schools regarding substance abuse, and chaired many events including the Children’s Safety Program.

“It is our hope,” said Ashland Police Department Chief Scott C. Rhomer, ‘that for someone who has sacrificed his life to his country and so much of his time to his community, that people will come out to support this cause and help ease the exorbitant  financial stress for Bob and his family.  He is, for me, an example to follow and a person I hold in high regard.”

A sampling of items for the auction and raffle include:   Red Sox tickets on Aug. 21, two luxury box tickets for the Celtics on April 4, two Patriots tickets, and a week’s vacation in Maine. The raffles include gift certificates to many local restaurants, overnight stays at local hotels, salon and spa services, car detailing, and more.

The lineup will comprise two jam bands, a blue grass band, a country alt band, and several musicians performing rock, blues, and folk.
