Dancing Arts Center Dancers to Study at Prestigious Summer Programs

Maggie Bergman, a junior at Holliston High School will be studying dance at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet for five weeks this summer.  Maggie began her dance training in the after school program at the Dancing Arts Center five years ago. Prior to beginning her dance training, Maggie was a competitive gymnast, having competed in the Massachusetts USA State Championships, in 2006, where she won third all around for the state at Level 5, including floor routine, uneven bars, balance beam, and vault. This will be Maggie’s second summer studying away from the Dancing Arts Center. Last summer she studied at the Washington School of Ballet in Washington, D.C. for four weeks. Maggie’s decision to attend the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet this summer was guided by her dance director and master instructors at the Dancing Arts Center.

In addition to Maggie, four other Dancing Arts Center students from Metro West towns have been accepted into nationally known summer programs: Hannah Clerico, a sophomore at Natick High School, will also study dance at Central Pennsylvania’s Youth Ballet for five weeks;  Angela Cole, 17, a student of the Dancing Arts Academy of Holliston and a Hopkinton resident, will study at Alvin Ailey in New York City; Daena Bortnick, 16, a student of the Dancing Arts Academy of Holliston and a Framingham resident, is returning to the Houston Ballet Summer Intensive at the Ben Stevenson Academy for six weeks; and Adriana Greaves, 15, a Dancing Arts Academy student from Ashland has been accepted into the nationally recognized summer program at the American Ballet Theater (ABT) in NYC.

These chosen dancers auditioned each weekend in January in both Boston and New York, as major companies from across the country selected the top candidates.  Karyn Edison, Dancing Arts Center Director, feels that receiving outside perspective and feedback from other master teachers is helpful at the right time and place during her students’ educations. Therefore, she helps them decide when, where, and with whom they should be seen and then helps them determine which program is best suited for them during the summer.  All students return to the Dancing Arts Center before the summer is out to begin establishing the next step in developing their careers.

"Maggie's decision to attend the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet this summer was guided by her dance director and master instructors at the Dancing Arts Center." I am very sorry but her "instructors" didn't guide her anywhere. She made the decision by herself. They didn't even know she got in for awhile, and personally I think it's wrong that they always take the credit for things they didn't do. Not trying to be mean or anything but this is wrong and unfair to that poor, young girl.

Congratulations to all of you talented, disciplined, and hard working artist/athletes and your dedicated teachers. It is hard to imagine a much better start in life.
