Strike a Chord Women for Rosie’s Place

by Ruthann Baler
3/16/2011

The concert is being organized by Strike a Chord Concerts for Charity, which has raised more than $20,000 for Boston-area nonprofits through eleven concerts since 2007.  In addition to acoustic music, the event will feature women’s artwork, crafts, and raffle prizes, with proceeds benefitting the shelter.

Admission is through donations, with La Carreta offering a discount to patrons who make a contribution to Rosie’s Place. The concert will be held in the restaurant’s function room and will feature a casual, festival atmosphere, inviting music and art lovers to attend for a few songs or stay for the entire show.

“Thank you to all involved with Strike a Chord Concerts for Charity,” said Rosie’s Place Executive Director Sue Marsh. “As Rosie’s Place does not accept any government funding, fundraising events such as Strike a Chord help Rosie’s Place continue to provide services for the poor and homeless women who come through our doors every day.”

“We are proud to host this important event and be part of a community-wide initiative that is helping to make a difference in the lives of others,” said La Carreta owner Antonio Aguirre.  “Giving back to the community is a priority for our business, and I can’t think of a better way to help raise money than through local music and art.”

More than 30 women of all ages and genres will perform during the concert. The evening will be co-hosted by singer-songwriter Ellen Schmidt of Concord and spoken word artist Cheryl Perreault of Hopkinton.
