If this is a NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION then it would not be considered gambling.

I believe they are "buying the rings themselves" as a commentor states. This is not a School Sponsored event. This event is being run by parents at an off school property site. I believe this fundraiser is to off-set the out of pocket cost of the rings for their parents and some who may not be able to buy one at all. The ring is their trophy. This is not a defense of the fundraiser or the decision to purchase the rings, but I don't think this should be confused with a school sanctioned event. That would certainly fall under many guidelines!

I just question the validity of gambling through fundraising. It is gambling isnt it? Fundraise for the rings is fine but gambling to get there is questionable. Ive participated before for the cheerleaders ($10). I don't know the answer here but i am just curious to see why it is ok in some places but not others. Why is it ok to send kids out to push this kind of fundraising? Im looking at it from a policy standpoint.

Chris, Is this any different than any other organization holding a drawing to fundraise? I know that HYSA does one every year as well to offset the cost of Marshall St. CONGRATS TO THE PANTHERS!

One would think that if you would not want children to learn to gamble then you would not fundraise with gambling. It is ok to gamble now? But when the Milford Casino opens how many people will be freaking out? It just doesnt seem to add up to be wise lessons. Is it more acceptable to gamble because there are children involved?
