Rail Trail Work Party

by Ken Henderson
10/7/2010

Sunday, October 10, 2010
9:00am – Noon; 1pm - 4pm

Please join us for a day of clearing and cleanup of the Upper Charles Rail Trail. Bring bow saws or lopping shears.  Work boots, gloves, long sleeves, and long pants are recommended.  Being a cleanup, there will be mosquitoes and areas of poison ivy.  Share in the future of the rail trail on this cleanup day…… a future that will allow more access for bikes and safe walking terrain, and less dependence on cars for local transport.

Park at the access road near the Holliston Town Well off of Brook Street: From Washington Street turn onto Brook Street, turn left at Mayflower Landing (next street), turn right at the paved access drive just before the railbed. Access to the town well is on the left. Please make sure that you do not block the access gate to the town well building.

While we encourage the whole family to take part, youngsters able to pull brush into piles will be most helpful in the afternoon session. Why not bring your lunch and make a day of it? Water and local cider will be provided; help us reduce trash by bringing your own reusable cup.

The rail trail is starting to take shape. The town of Holliston purchased a section of land between Hopping Brook Road and South Street in November 2009 and have cleaned up that section. They cleaned up the land between South Street and the Milford town line that provides a direct connection to the recently paved Milford Section of the Upper Charles Trail. They are getting very close to purchasing a section between Cross Street and Church Street and will be leasing the remainder. They hope to secure the entire 6.7 miles of right of way in either ownership or lease this year or early next year.

Please email me that you will be attending so we have a good idea of how large the group will be:
