Walk Against Breast Cancer

Five Miles Closer to a Cure”

On Sunday October 17, the Congregational Church green will once again fill with walkers of all different ages, sizes and speeds— for Holliston’s own Walk Against Breast Cancer(www.hollistonwalks.org).

The diverse group is unified by one goal: raising funds to combat breast cancer.  Part of the event will be to recognize cancer survivors, and it is encouraging to see this number grow larger every year—proof that progress is constantly being made.  The money raised by the Holliston Walk goes solely to Dana Farber breast cancer research, and has a direct impact on funding new research and getting experimental drugs to patients.  Now in its eighth year, Holliston’s Walk has raised over $319,000 since its beginning, making a sizable donation of just over $43,000 last year, despite the arrival of a surprise sleet and snow squall. It is a rain or shine event for sure!

As in previous years, the Walk will kick off from the green at 1:30 p.m.  Check-in will take place in Upper Town Hall at 12:30 p.m.  Walkers and non-walkers alike are invited to buy tickets for a Grand Prize Drawing featuring a pair of American Airline tickets; the drawing also includes a wide range of other prizes donated by local businesses.  (If you have a raffle prize to donate, contact Katie Connors at 508-259-6162) Tickets, on sale at Celebrate Holliston and on the day of the Walk, are $5, 3 for $10, or 8 for $20.

The entry fee for each adult walker is $100 and $50 for students (college too); this can be raised by collecting pledges from others, and walkers are, of course, encouraged to raise more than the minimum.  Holliston High School students have been excellent participants over the years, coming with their sports teams and in groups of friends to support the event.
