From Lost in East Holliston

Dear Dr. Jim and Madame Empathy...

My husband and I are well known in the town of Holliston in our church, neighborhood and social organizations. I have suspected for some time that my hubby has been seeing another woman here in town. A good
neighbor recently confirmed my suspicions.

While this confirmation has devasted me, I find myself in a dilemma. The woman and neighbor who told me of my husband's shortcomings, is herself in the same situation but unaware that her hubby is seeing a co-worker of mine. Should I return the favor and let her know ?

Dear Lost,
Absolutely do not tell your neighbor what you have heard. What seems like fact may only be rumor. If it is true, and she finds out some other way, you can support each other. Good luck and always put yourself in the other person's shoes.

Dr J's response:
Dear Lost,  there are two issues here.  The first is what you are going to do about your husband's infidelity, and the second is whether you should tell your neighbor about her husband's dalliances.  I think you can resolve both issues easily.  Go to a local copy center and get 100 single-page posters made up and post them on telephone poles around your neighborhood.  And what should those posters say?  How about, " My husband is cheating on me - I have proof.  If he doesn't confess to me by the end of this week, I will name him publicly and take him for everything he owns."  Best of luck.
Dr J

Isn't there other valuable news you could be reporting on taking place in Holliston? This column is a waste.

Yay. I can't wait to see the posters! We should call "cheaters" and get a mini series done in Holliston. Don't automatically jump to conclusions. You need proof, perhaps a video camera in your house to see who enters and exits. Or a GPS in his car to see where he is going. You can't assume your neighbor is truthful and your husband is not. Ultimately ask him and observe what his eyes do while he answers your question. Don't post posters unless you want to make an absolute laughing stock of your situation. I hope things work out for you, as smoothly as possible.
