HYSA Girls Reach Finals of Presidents Cup

The Holliston Tornadoes, a HYSA U11 Girls Division 3 team, were runners up in the 2010 President Cup’s Tournament hosted by the Boston Area Youth Soccer League this past weekend in Medfield. The team fell in the finals to the Medway Flash by a score of 5-0.

The Tornadoes’ road to the championship match included a dramatic win in the quarter finals over the Natick Renegades. Tied 1-1 after two overtimes, the match was decided by penalty kicks. Holliston’s keeper, Ashley Fondo, made four saves while teammates Erica Chipman and Catie Maroney made their kicks count, sealing a 2-0 victory. In the semi-finals, the Tornadoes defeated the Concord-Carlisle Edge by a score of 4-0.

Coached by Garth Fondo and Jeff Geoffroy, the Holliston Tornadoes are: Hannah Catlin, Erica Chipman, Ashley Fondo, Morgan Geoffroy, Kathryn Johnston, Harriett Koblenzer, Rebecca Malcolm, Catherine Maroney, Kathleen McShane, Elizabeth O’Neill, Halley Savas and Manvi Tandon.

Two other HYSA teams also made a strong showing this post-season, including Karen Stamatakos’ GU12 team and Ken Rockett's GU14 team.
