Centennial Essay Contest

This year the Holliston Historical Society is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary.  The Society offers historical and other educational programs to its members, Holliston residents and visitors.  To commemorate this milestone, Society members are preparing a TIME CAPSULE  which will be opened by Society members 50 years from now and welcome a selected essay written by a member of the junior or senior class of Holliston High School to be included in the capsule.

Grand Prize:
 $500.00 – Awarded at Holliston Historical Society’s 2010 Annual Meeting and published in our Fall newsletter.  All essays submitted will be       bound in book form and will become a part of our library collection.

Eligibility:
All class students in good standing in the Class of 2010 and the Class of 2011 at Holliston High School.

Title of the Essay:  Holliston, 2010

Essay Theme: 
Develop a tour for out-of-town students visiting Holliston in 2010 for the first time.  Describe what  you  will  show  them  and  what  you  will  tell  them about  these  Holliston points of interest.  Keep in mind that a copy of the winning essay will be included in a time capsule to be opened 50 years from now and read by Holliston high school students at that time.

Length of Essay:
No fewer than 500 and no more than 700 words.

Submittal:
All essays must be submitted electronically to (atafha@verizon.net) and one hard copy delivered to Kate Meo at Holliston High School, both to be submitted no later than the end of the school day Friday, May 14, 2010.     

Judges will consider:
Originality, creativity and interest of content, clarity of writing as well as correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
