Strike a Chord Concerts for Charity will present  “The Art of Music: an Evening of Folk, Rock, Blues, and Pop” on Saturday, January 16, 7:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Milford, to raise money for Art beCause Breast Cancer Foundation, a Holliston-based nonprofit dedicated to eradicating the environmental causes of the disease. The benefit is being sponsored by Szissors Hair Salon of Shrewsbury. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at www.artbecause.org, at Kamala Boutique, 31 Union Street in Holliston, or at the door.

The concert will feature acoustic bands and solo artists performing diverse sets of original and cover songs. To view a list of the lineup and listen to a sampling of the artists’ recordings, visit www.strikeachordmusicians.org.

Art beCause Breast Cancer Foundation, founded in 2000 by Framingham resident and breast cancer survivor Ellie Anbinder, has raised nearly $50,000 in grants for researchers who are working to identify the links between environmental chemical exposure and breast cancer. She was one of 100 individuals honored in 2009 by Massachusetts General Hospital for her work in the fight against breast cancer.

“We are looking forward to a great evening of music and the opportunity to raise more awareness about the mission we are on to turn off the environmental causes of breast cancer,” said Anbinder. “About 90 percent of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer do not have any family history of the disease. If we can begin to understand the environmental causes, we can begin to talk about bringing about change and ultimately preventing a disease that is now at epidemic proportions across the United States.”

The evening will also include an exhibit of black and white portraits of breast cancer survivors, a project created by Brookline photographer David Fox, who plans to take the presentation around the country to raise money and awareness for Art beCause Breast Cancer Foundation. The portraits feature women of varying ages and ethnicities, illustrating that the disease can affect anyone.

Steve Gordon, general manager of the Doubletree Hotel in Milford said, “The Doubletree is honored to help make this concert possible and to help raise funds and awareness for Art beCause Breast Cancer Foundation. We are also excited about hosting the ninth Strike a Chord Concerts for Charity event and look forward to an evening filled with some of the best music from around the region.”
