HOLLISTON, Mass. (January 6, 2009) - As it has for the past 20 years, the Holliston Newcomers Club (HNC) is starting off the new year doing what it does best - giving back to Holliston. Each year community projects are funded through its popular Grants Program, from museum passes and the marigold project to a new balance beam at Placentino. Each year grant recipients make a difference in Holliston.

“Many of us will never be able to personally write a check to a charity for $30,000, but as a member of the Newcomers Club, we all work together, to raise money for worthy groups in town,” comments Barb Daly President of the Holliston Newcomers Club.  “The grant recipients then use that money to better our town, in ways that we can all enjoy -- whether it’s the summer concert series or the library museum passes.  I feel so incredibly proud to be a part of this amazing organization,” continues Daly.

This year will be no exception as the club is now accepting grant applications from individuals or organizations who wish to make a significant impact in the town of Holliston. The annual HNC Grants program is made possible by many of the fundraising efforts such as the Craft Fair and House Tours. The applications should demonstrate how the money will be used to provide a needed service or project which helps a large number of Holliston residents.  Applications will be available at Coffee Haven or can be downloaded from http://hollistonnewcomers.org/

Applications will be accepted until February 12, 2009, and grants will be awarded in April 2009. For more information or questions about the grants program please contact Marya Bergloff at 508-429-2168.

For over 20 years the Newcomers Club has been demonstrating its commitment to the community by funding many projects and services in town. Last year the club gave back close to $30,000 to the Holliston community. Over the years many great improvements such as new grills and canopies at Stoddard Park, two-way radios for the Police Department  and a new stair chair for the fire department are just a few of the projects funded by this grant program.
