Lowland St. Solar Project Approved
The Planning Board approved a proposal for a new large-scale solar project on Lowland St. at its meeting Thursday evening. The new project will be installed at 106 Lowland St., and the target date to complete construction is December 1st.
There are two parts of the proposal. The first is to install solar panels on the roof of the building occupied by Lista International at 106 Lowland St. The second is to build three car ports over the existing parking lots on the property.
Car ports are large parking lot coverings with solar panels installed on the roof. Some local examples of car ports are at Dunkin Donuts in Milford and REI in Framingham.
The Board agreed to allow construction work on Saturdays in order to complete the project faster, but with restrictions. Work will only be allowed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and may only involve installing the solar panels on the roof of the existing building.
In addition, the Board, stipulated that construction vehicles cannot use Lowland St. on any days of the week. All construction traffic for the project must use Jeffrey Ave. and Whitney St.
The Board also approved an extension of and development on Cheryl Lane. This extension of the road will not involve building a cul-de-sac at the end of the road, and one new single-family home will be built.
There was another proposal before the Board which provided for building a cul-de-sac and two new single-family homes. The Board decided to approve the one-home option because its members felt that would have the least impact on surrounding residents.
Still, some residents voiced concerns about the proximity of the new development and the potential loss of tree cover between their property and the new house.
The Board was scheduled to hear from Mayflower Medicinals about converting their operation in town from growing medical marijuana to recreational, but no representative from Mayflower was present. The Board re-scheduled the proposal to be heard at its meeting on September 12th.
