Week #8: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: (thru 6/2)

Week8:

As predicted here last week, Kampersal took down South 10-7 in a key ‘A’ Division match up as OF Chris Boggess had a key 2- run double in the top of the 7th to break open a tie game.  South P Bryan Sweeney did get the start and pitched well but dissension still exists in the dugout over who should be the starter.  South had a chance in the bottom of the 7th but 3-4-5 hitters went down in order to end it.  Mudville stormed back from an 8-run deficit as Long Distance blew a tire (see what I did there?) in the 6th to win 13-9 as Johnny ‘Cognac’ Hennessey went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s for the victors.  LDT tried to quell the 6th inning onslaught by bringing in Chris ‘The Arsonist’ Landers to pitch but the righty was unable to cool-off the Mudville bats and surrendered 5 consecutive hits and gave up the lead.

The Mudville line-up hitting against Landers in the 6th.

Dalton Rd nipped DYR 22-3 behind the Do-it-All performance of Dave Birmingham.   Making his debut as starting pitcher, the slugger tossed a 6-hitter and gave up just 2 ER over 7 innings of work.  Then in the 6th, when DYR cut it to a 16-run deficit, Birm hit a towering 3-run HR off the light stanchion as the ball ricocheted into the playground at Damigella Field scattering children everywhere.

Birmingham trotting around the bases after his mammoth 3-run HR knocked out a few of the lights in the leftfield light tower.  Stats Inc measured the blast at 519 ft…

Choo, choo!!! The Hood train rolls on with a 21-10 thumping of Brentwood.  ‘The Holliston Hebrew Hammer’, Colin Fields hit for the cycle, drove in 7 runs, and threw a runner out at the plate while IF Greg Andreaola drove in 4 with 2 doubles.

Bragville put up 10 in the top of the first and never looked back in a 16-5 win over Jasper Rock.  P Chris Connors went 4-5 with 3 RBI and yielded just 5 hits and 3 ER in the win.  In a game that took 27 minutes, Lions edged Queens 4-1 behind Ernie ‘the hitman’ Tomacelli’s 3 hits and 4 RBI’s.  Ernie now sits just 31 hits behind the All-Time hit record of legendary HSS player, Harry Kampersal.  Anthony’s East beat Downtown 9-4 behind the inspiring play of the ageless John Shannahan who went 3-3 with 3 runs scored and threw out 2 runners looking to stretch singles into doubles.

Shannahan unleashes his ‘cannon’ to throw-out Downtown’s Todd Kiley at 2B in the 4th.

WEEK 9 Preview GAME OF THE WEEK: (4-0 for the yr on my picks)

Kampersal (5-1) vs Dalton Rd (4-2) @ Patoma

With a chance to move closer to a spot in the ‘A’ Championship game vs Braggville, look for Kampys to come out aggressive vs Dalton Rd’s new pitching phenom, Dave Birmingham.  Big spot here for Birm as his nerves will be tested early by the relentless Kampy line up.  For that reason, I’m taking Kampersal in this one, 12-9 as veteran P Geo Kampersal will tame the red-hot Dalton bats.
