Week #7: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: (thru 5/27)
Week 7:
First it was the Jets in 1969, the US Olympic Hockey Team in 1980, then NY Giants in 2007, and now The Hood in 2019 with a 7-6 upset win over Dalton Rd. Behind some stellar defensive work by LF Anthony Capella, who had 7 put-outs including the final 2 in a 1-run game, The Hood won their 4th straight. Dalton handled the loss in different ways:

Others baked Brownies….
DYR earned a much-needed win with a 10-7 victory over Mudville as OF Doug Reely stayed hot with 3 more hits and 2 RBI for the victors. Downtown took care of Jasper Rock 17-11 (as I predicted) behind the hot bat of SS John Drohan who had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s on the night. Anthony’s East squeaked by Queens 25-6 as SS Dave Robinson led the way going 5-5 and driving in 6 runs. P Jim Cormier twirled a gem giving up just 3 ER over 7 innings.
Sparked by some key managerial decisions, Kampersal downed Lions 12-4 behind the brothers Kampersal as P Geo tossed a 4-hitter while brother Tom “LaRussa” had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Braggville remained undefeated in a 16-9 win over Brentwood as LF Dan Kittredge had a big night with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s.
In a tight battle, South edged Long-Distance Tire 13-12 despite leading by 7 heading into the final inning. Ignoring calls to bring in the closer, a gassed (literally) P Bryan Sweeney went back out for the 7th and was lit-up like a Christmas tree as LDT batted around to tie it. Luckily for Sweeney, SS Sean Jaquet bailed him out in the bottom of the 7th with a walk-off double scoring OF Dave Franco with the winning run. South OF Steve Lawless went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s in the win. An unnamed South source tells me that there is a serious push internally to move Sweeney to catcher or first base so young phenom, Greg Copeland can assume the starting pitcher role. The clubhouse seems to be split evenly so, no telling what this distraction will do for morale and with a HUGE game vs Kampersal this week, the timing could not be worse for this group.

WEEK 8 Preview GAME OF THE WEEK:
South (4-1) vs Kampersal (4-1) @ Kampersal
In a key ‘A’ match-up, upstart South will look to work through its pitching controversy and figure out a way to beat Kampersal and gain sole possession of 2nd place. Manager Tom ‘La Russa’ Kampersal will have his team ready to go with a line-up change or two that will predictably spark his offense yet again, so I see Kampy’s prevailing 11-5 in this one.
