Week #6: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: (thru 5/19)

Week 6:

Braggville remains undefeated as they beat Dalton Rd 9-5 behind OF Rich Cordani’s 3 hits and 4 RBI’s.  Despite the loss, Dalton was able to make the most of their postgame tailgate with home-made brownies from IF Mike Woods.  A good time was had by all.  Dalton was without slugger Dave Birmingham who was in Vegas for Teddy KGB’s Poker Tournament.  No word on how he finished but this photo may help:

In a bit of a shocker, Anthony’s pounded Kampersal 14-5 as OF John Shanahan had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s while also robbing Kampy’s shartstop Dana Bureau of an extra base hit in the 3rd with 2 on and 2 out.  In a league first, we had an appeal play on a ‘touch or no touch’ of 3rd base where NO play was being made.  Guys, its ole man ball, it’s a ‘neighborhood’ play.  As long as he’s not cutting across the mound from 2nd base to head home, it’s all good.  Manager Tom Kampersal held a closed-door meeting after the loss and let his teammates know that no one is safe…

Guess who’s back?!!  P/Mgr Bryan Sweeney went 3 for 3 with 2RBI’s while also twirling a gem giving up just 2 ER’s in 7 innings of work as South nipped offensively-challenged Jasper Rock 7-4.   Here are a couple of photos of Jasper’s pregame BP:

Downtown used a 2-out, 9 run 4th inning rally to erase a 10-2 deficit to beat DYR 16-12.  SS John Drohan had 4 hits and 4 RBI’s while slugger Tim McCarron went 3-5 with 3 RBI’s in the win.  DYR OF Doug Reely went 5-5 with 3 RBI’s in the loss.

Lions nipped winless Brentwood, 11-9.  That’s all I have bc both teams went home immediately after to watch the GOT finale.

The Hood train rolls on!  They win their 3rd in a row over Long Distance, 8-5 behind OF Greg Andreaola’s clutch 2-out, 2-run double in the 6th to break a 5-5 tie.

Mudville crushed Queens, 19-5 as 1B Errick Spada’s clutch 2-out, 3-run triple broke open the flood gates.  OF Andrew Johnson soon followed with a 3-run HR to put the game out of reach despite the effort by Queens RF Brian Bosselman who had 3 hits and robbed Mudville 3B Eric Kuharich twice of extra base hits.  Kuharich’s reaction to one of the catches:

WEEK 7 Preview GAME OF THE WEEK:

Downtown (2-2) vs Jasper Rock (1-3) @ Damigella

Downtown looks to keep their bats hot versus a desperate Jasper Rock squad in the only ‘A’ match-up of the week.  I look for JR to break out of their offensive slumber, but it won’t be enough.  Despite batting 16, Downtown will prevail as slugger Tim McCarron will take full advantage of the friendly confines of Damigella.

Writer’s Note: A big ‘thank you’ to all the guys who came out to Kampersal Field on Saturday to help revitalize the field.  Kerry K has graciously allowed HSS to use his field for years and with all the wet weather lately, it has taken a beating.  So, after about 2 hours, 20 guys had raked, patched, and spread dirt around the infield & outfield to give it a much-needed face lift.
