GARY HYLANDER “Forty Whacks”: Lizzie Borden on Trial

Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 1:00 pm

In the summer of 1892, Fall River, Massachusetts was the site of one of the most notorious murder trials of the Gilded Age.  The wealthy Andrew Borden and his wife Abby were brutally hacked to death.  Lizzie Borden, the daughter of Andrew Borden, was charged with the gruesome murders.  Characterized in the press as the “Protestant Nun,” residents of Fall River and the public in general found it hard to believe that a woman of Lizzie’s class, background and wealth could commit such a savage double murder.

Presentation Sponsored by Timothy Daniels House

Please sign up with the Receptionist at (508) 429-0622 for this presentation.

BEWARE OF PHONE SCAMS

Phone and email scams are rampant. We continue to team up with the Holliston Police Department in trying to get warnings out about this deceitful practice.

Three of the most prevalent calls currently, mostly targeting senior citizens, come from people pretending to be with Eversource or NStar, the IRS or from a group calling themselves, National Social Security.  These are most always SCAMS.  NEVER give personal information, credit card information or send money until you have called the appropriate agency yourself and made sure the demand for payment is real.

When in doubt, check with trusted family and friends, the Holliston Police Department, or feel free to call the Senior Center Staff at (508) 429-0622.

Don’t Become a Victim of Medicare Fraud!

Medicare scams are common, including one in which people are being sent braces they don’t need.

· Do not provide your Medicare or Social Security number to anyone, except your trusted medical providers.

· Medicare and Social Security will NOT call you and ask for personal information.

· Hang up if anyone calls you or sends you a postcard offering you free products or claiming to be from Medicare. Beware!

· Do not accept or open any packages you did not order.

To report potential fraud, you can contact the police or the Massachusetts SMP program at Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, 1-800-892-0890. To schedule a SHINE appointment, call the Senior Center at (508) 429-0622.
