Here is a brief background on the program we are running on May 3rd. We are preparing for a Community Service Showcase in which high school students will be displaying community service projects they have completed throughout the year, idea sharing, and brainstorming future projects.

As part of the showcase, students have been challenged to set up collection bins in their schools to collect toiletry donations that will be distributed to local Veterans Organizations and homeless Veterans groups.

On May 3rd, our goal is to incorporate a “Service Hour” where the students will organize all the donations and then assemble care packages to be distributed to our Veterans in need. They will also be writing “Thank You” letters to our Veterans. This idea was created by the MIAA Student Advisory Committee.

Last year, the students who attended this event collected and donated over 366 care packages to those Veterans in need. A tremendous success!
