William R. "Bill" Hansen, 91, formerly of Wayland, died peacefully and comfortably surrounded by his family at his residence on October 16, 2018. He was born in Boston on November 30, 1926 the son of the late William O. Hansen and Mae (McCarthy) Hansen. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Nancy J. (Sturtevant) Hansen of Holliston, formerly of Wayland. Devoted father of Deborah S. Campion and her husband Greg of Redding, CA; Beverly M. Hansen of Brookfield; Rhonda E. DOrtenzio of Holliston; Jeannie H. Moore and her husband Ken of Concord, CA; Virginia L. Hansen and her husband John of Revere; and Gayle H. Schumacher and her husband Michael of Sherborn. Cherished grandfather of Kim, Chris and Ryan Campion; William Jenkins and his wife Kate; Christina, Richie, and Joey DOrtenzio; Daniel Moore and his wife Alex; Scott Moore; Weston and Riley Schumacher. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Barbara Langlois and Genevieve Rawson. Bill grew up in Newton and received his B.S. in Business from Boston University. During World War II he served his country proudly with the United States Army as a TEC5. Bill had a long and distinguished career of over 40 years in the manufacturing industry. He resided in Wayland for over 42 years, spent several years in Natick and has been a resident of Holliston for the past 10 years. He enjoyed golf, tennis and reading. He was an avid Boston sports fan, watching all 4 teams religiously. Bill will be most remembered for his outgoing, friendly and humorous personality. He had hundreds of friends made throughout his life, especially his "Newton gang" and his friends in the Mystery Club at St. Zepherins. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his 6 daughters and 11 grandchildren. Visitations will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland. Private family interment will be held in the Hansen family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
