THURSDAY EVENING LEARNING SERIES

Mindful Meditation

Thursday, July 12th, July 19th, July 26th, and August 2nd ~ 6:30 pm—8:00 pm

“Sometimes you need to sit lonely on the floor in a quiet room in order to hear your own voice and not let it drown in the noise of others.”   ?   Charlotte Eriksson

Come practice the art of conscious living as we release the stress of the day and nurture greater clarity, awareness and acceptance of the present moment.  This series will be taught by Jean O’Connor, a graduate of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program at UMass Medical School, student of Master Ed Williamson of Pathways and our very own Senior Center Tai Chi Teacher.  Please note that there will be no class July 5th.

Please call the Senior Center at 508-429-0622 to reserve your space for this program.  Ask for Marty should you need further information.

Dr. Gary Hylander Presents

THE IMPEACHMENT OF PRESIDENT ANDREW JOHNSON

Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 1:00 pm

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson.  The framers of the Constitution had provided a legislative remedy to remove an errant President.  Article II of the Constitution stipulated that a President could only be impeached and removed from office on conviction of “treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”  Join us as we discuss the process of impeachment and how the post war Civil War politics and partisanship of Reconstruction led to the impeachment of President Johnson.

Presentations Sponsored by the Senior Support Foundation

Dignity Matters

Lack of access to sanitary products and underwear is a huge issue for tens of thousands of women and girls across the country.  Single moms, homeless and/or low income women and children, some fleeing domestic abuse are often faced with the humiliating dilemma of having to choose between food to survive or these basic necessities.  Food stamps don’t cover them, they are almost never donated, and schools and shelters often have no funds to purchase these items.  We are partnering up with Home Instead Senior Care and Dignity Matters during the month of July as a collection place for these items:  New Underwear; New or Gently Used Bras; Pads and Tampons; and Incontinence Briefs.  Please help us help women maintain some sense of dignity.

For more information, please call Marty at (508) 429-0622
