A History of the Railroad and Rail Trail
The Holliston Public Library and the Holliston Historical Society have joined together to present the story of Holliston’s history of the railroad that came to the town in 1848. On Sunday afternoon, April 29, 2018, at 2:30PM at the Holliston Public Library, Robert Weidknecht, Mary Greendale, Jay Robinson, and Joanne Hulbert will bring together the past history, the present story of the Rail Trail and the future of Holliston’s greatest landmark and recreational asset. The program is free to all, and we hope will build an appreciation for a landmark that was nearly lost to deterioration.
Have you walked the trail? Have you seen all the landmarks, the natural landscape as well as the impressive engineering feats of early railroad construction? There’s more to the trail than just the trail that touches upon Holliston’s history and leads us forward to a story about innovative land use.
We hope that after attending the program Holliston residents will have a greater appreciation for the Rail Trail and will take advantage of a walk along its scenic course. Bring along questions, as the panel of speakers will have many great stories to tell. The trains to Framingham and Milford may be gone from the stations at East Holliston, Railroad Street, Metcalf and Braggville, but the legacy of the railroad in Holliston lives on.
