Holliston Senior Center - January & February Newsletter

by Linda Sottile
1/2/2018

Happy New Year!  January is often a time when people make “resolutions,” whether to improve themselves or give back to their community.  Here at the Senior Center we can help you with both. If you want to improve your fitness, we have all kinds of exercise classes.  Not into exercise, but want to get out of the house more? How about taking a watercolor class, join our Book Club or Writer’s Group, or stop by and listen to the Band? And, of course, you can always join us for lunch.

Maybe you would like to give back to your community. We have a number of ways you can do that right here at the Center.  Both the COA Board and Senior Support Foundation (SSF) are always looking for new associate members. The COA Board helps guide the direction of the Senior Center and identify needs of seniors throughout the community.  The SSF is our fundraising group, with a mission to raise funds for the Center programs, and the senior community.

We also seek volunteers to help in the “Good as New Shop”, and substitutes to work as lunch servers and receptionists. Lastly, we always welcome volunteers to join our bi-monthly newsletter folding group.

Let us help you get the New Year off to a great start, and have a Happy and Healthy 2018!  Linda Marshall -  Director

Medical Escort Program Assistance with Preparing for and Transportation to and from Medical Appointments   Would you or your loved one benefit from having an escort to medical appointments?  Would an extra pair of “ears” help understand instructions from medical personnel?  Could you use a little extra help getting on and off the regular Senior Center bus?    Thanks to a Grant through BayPath Elder Services, we are now able to provide, at no cost to seniors of Holliston, a medical escort to meet you at your home before your medical ride, scheduled through the MWRTA and the Holliston Senior Center.  They will accompany you to your medical appointment and then see you safely home on the Senior Center’s van.  Please call Marty Schneier, Outreach Coordinator, at (508) 429-0622 to find out more information and to see if you qualify for this outstanding program.   This service is provided in part by a grant through BayPath Elder Services using Title III Older American Act funding.  Because federal funding is being used, we are providing you with an opportunity to make a “voluntary donation” toward the cost of this service.  Your voluntary donations are put directly into program enhancement, allowing for the expansion of services.  WHETHER OR NOT YOU MAKE A VOLUNTARY DONATION IN NO WAY INFORMS OR INFLUENCES THIS SERVICE DELIVERY.
