The Holliston Democratic Town Committee is one of 7 area committees co-hosting the Metrowest Immigration Forum: A Call to Action. The forum will take place Saturday, April 29, from noon-2:00 pm at Heritage at Framingham Senior Living Center, 747 Water St.

The event will bring together grassroots organizations, political activists and interested citizens to discuss what’s happening in immigrant communities as they begin to deal with the policies of the new administration. Attendees will also learn about ways individuals can get involved with the community organizations that serve immigrant and refugee communities

Julie Gordon from the Natick DTC and one of the organizers said, "I know so many people who, like me, are upset by the planned immigration/refugee practices of this new administration. They are energized by the marches and protests, but don't know where to go to take the next step. I wanted to do something concrete to connect those people with the information and resources they need to act, to be able to help the immigrant/refugee communities."

The formal portion of the forum will feature a panel discussion moderated by Wade Blackman, District Counsel and Constituent Services Representative for Congresswoman Katherine Clark. Panelists will include:  Marion Davis, Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA);  Elena Noureddine, Political Asylum/Immigration  Representation Project (PAIR);  Josh Zakim, Boston City Councilor and social justice activist, and a representative from the Civil Rights Division, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.

Both before, and following the formal portion of the forum, attendees will be able to talk with representatives from numerous MetroWest community organizations to learn about opportunities to get involved. Representatives will be available from: Voices Against Violence;  MetroWest Workers Center;  A Place To Turn;  Framingham/Natick Libraries ESIL;  Framingham Adult ESL;  Jewish Family Services of MetroWest;  Fresh Start Furniture Bank;  the ACLU of MetroWest, and more.

Seating for the forum is limited. Those interested in attending should visit the event Facebook page Metrowest Immigration Forum to RSVP or contact Julie Gordon at metrowestimmigrationforum@gmail.com. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the event.

The hosting coalition is made up of the Democratic Town Committees of Natick, Framingham, Sudbury, Hudson, Ashland, Wayland and Holliston.
