Conservation Associates to Host Annual Winter Walk

The Holliston Conservation Associates will be hosting their annual winter walk on Saturday, March 4th at 9:00 AM.  We will be walking in the Brentwood Conservation Property, located off Gorwin Drive.  The walk will be less than a mile each way and it should be an easy walk.  We do not walk quickly on these outings because Marc finds so much to look at!

Meet at the Gorwin Dr. entrance to the Brentwood property.  There is a small lot there, or you can park on the street.  Marc Connelly is a fountain of knowledge about all things in nature so it should be a fun and informative walk.

I believe the weather will be fine on Saturday, but if you have questions, you can call Mary at 429-5929.  I hope you will join us as we see what there is to see this year!

Above,  Marc Connelly addresses the group at last year’s winter walk on the Rail Trail.

If there is still any snow, we might see their tracks (above).  Even without snow, we may find scat or prints in mud.  We can look at things like rock formations and trees and other plants.  Along the pond you may see some cranberries like these shown below we found there three years ago.

One big feature of this property is a beaver lodge, seen below blocking what used to be a trail between the two ponds.  You can get close enough to touch the lodge if you are so inclined.  We are sure to see other evidence of the beavers’ activity like wood chips and chewed logs.
