Friends of Holliston Basketball to raise funds for new basketball/volleyball court at HHS

By Scott Edwards

The Holliston School Committee, on January 5, approved fundraising by the Friends of Holliston Basketball (FOHB) for a new basketball/volleyball court at Holliston High School’s Rowles Field House. The condition of the current court raises safety concerns for students, high school athletes, and youth and community sports groups.

To reach its goal of $100,000, FOHB is selling sideline “bricks” that will display the names of community members and businesses that made the new court possible. Small (6” x 8”), medium (6” x 16.5”), and large (12.5” x 16.5”) bricks are available for $100, $250, and $500, respectively. In addition, court sponsorships and other forms of recognition are available for $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000.

All tax-exempt donations will be used for court materials and installation, court cleaning and maintenance, and costs associated with fundraising. Checks can be made out to Friends of Holliston Basketball (Tax ID# 81-4892479) and mailed to Committee chair Karen Jewett, 132 Prospect Street, Holliston, MA 01746.

FOHB has proposed a multipurpose, synthetic court, manufactured by Robbins Sports Surfaces, that provides increased shock absorbency and wood-floor-equivalent slip resistance. The court is approved by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) and FIVB (International Volleyball Federation).

Once the fundraising goal is reached, the plan is to install the court this summer, when school is out of session.

For more information, please visit the FOHB Facebook page (www.facebook.com/FriendsofHollistonBasketball) or email FriendsofHollistonBasketball@gmail.com.

The court will be a similar color scheme as the one in the photo, except with a red out-of-bounds surrounding the court and a logo/design at center court.
