On October 30, 2015, Medway/Ashland/Holliston/Millis HS girls hockey player Maddie Lamson was killed in a tragic car accident less than a month before she would have led the hockey team as a senior co-captain.  Maddie was a very popular student at Medway High School, playing Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, and Lacrosse.  In tribute to Maddie, her No. 11 jersey is hung on the bench at every hockey game.

In Marlboro, on Saturday, Jan. 14, Medway/Ashland Girls Coop team including five players from Holliston, faced off against league opponent Westwood at New England Sports Center in a game that was played in honor of Lamson and to raise funds for the Maddie Lamson Scholarship Fund.   The large crowd was made up of fans from Westwood, Medway/Ashland and former players and friends of the Lamson family, all who came out to support the family and honor Lamson’s  memory.

Coach Kurt Carter spoke of Maddie “being the soul of the team” and “encouraged others to follow in her footsteps”.  Players on both teams presented Bob and Alyson Lamson, Maddie’s parents, with flowers. This included Holliston players Ashley Fondo, Kathryn Johnston, Isabelle Larche, Morgan Perry and Jennifer Tuttle.  The ceremony ended with the playing of “Gone, Gone, Gone” by Phillip Phillips.  A song the team plays before each game in tribute to Maddie.  The event raised $1,252 for the scholarship fund.

While the ceremony was the main event, Medway/Ashland defeated Westwood, 3-1 in a very exciting game.  With the win, Medway/Ashland knocked Westwood out of the top spot in the SEMHL West League and took over second place.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund can send a donation to the Maddie Lamson Scholarship Fund, c/o Medway High School, 88 Summer St., Medway, Mass. 02053.
