by Lisa Kaplan
10/7/2016

Holliston Democratic Town Committee will try to sort out the pros and
cons of Ballot Question 2 at their meeting Saturday, October 8.
The group is hosting speakers from each side of the issue regarding raising the cap
on charter schools.
A yes vote for the ballot initiative would authorize the approval of up to 12 new
charter schools or enrollment expansions in existing charter schools by the state
Board of Elementary and Secondary Education per year.
Supporters of the initiative include Yes on 2, Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation,
and Democrats for Education Reform. Opposition comes from Massachusetts
Teachers Association, Massachusetts Democratic Party, US Senator Elizabeth
Warren, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and Boston mayor Marty
Walsh, among others.
The group has hosted speakers on Question 3, the Farm Animal Containment
Initiative, and on Question 4, the Marijuana Legalization Initiative.
The meeting will take place in the Selectmen’s Room at Town Hall at 10 a.m. The
public is welcome and encouraged to attend to hear about this important issue on
the ballot in November
